“Warn’d in Vain”

November 26th 2018

Charalampos Kydonakis aka ‘dirtyharrry’ from Crete, started with photography in 1997 as an architecture student. In the last ten years since 2008, he’s trying to understand why he ’s photographing, without any safe conclusion yet. He’s a member of iN-PUBLiC collective and has participated in exhibitions in Greece and abroad.

These images are from ‘Warn’d in Vain’, a NYC Argonautica tale; twin book of ‘Back to Nowhere’, a future parallel Minotaur tale from Crete. ‘W.I.V’ is my question mark inside the world’s most photographed city; made between the years 2014-2017 that I spent seven months as a stranger on the other side of the ocean. ‘B.T.N’ was made between 2009-2017 on my island; the only place I ‘ll never have the chance to see how it looks in the eyes of a stranger.

The more I shoot, the more I realise what I want from photography, and at the same time the more I get confused about what I want …
